As I leaned in the the 2020 ‘cultural revolution’ and advocacy work, I realized something important. The name ‘Poquita Loquita’ could be interpreted as insensitive because of my lack of hispanic/spanish heritage. Regardless of the intention behind it, I do not want to trigger someone and cause pain.
.
The last thing I want to do is be a part of ‘cultural appropriation’ that has created watered down versions of language, art and culture.
.
This change is part of my growth as I continue to take hard looks at myself and how my privileged upbringing and adulthood has resulted in perception missteps in my life. I want to be the change I see in the world.
My new logo is a direct connection to my Ghanaian heritage. My family from Ghana has had a defining impact on my identity with the world and a large portion of my family are still there. It is an adinkra symbol named 'WOFORO DUA PA A" which literally translates to, "when you climb a good tree". It represents "support for good causes."
My 'causes' are physical strength and emotional wellbeing. I am a beautifully flawed human, just like you, and I want this to be a place where you can be inspired to grow along side me.
I am doing my best to keep my reality unfiltered but I need your help. Let's keep each other honest throughout challenges in life.
Warmest Regards,
Suanshine
